STROUD’S loss is Cheltenham’s gain, as the elegant Regency town prepares to host EppyFest, “a two day celebration of live music that doesn’t conform to the mainstream”.

A spokesman said: “This is the seventh edition of this annual festival but it’s first year in Cheltenham after several years being held in Stroud.

“Headlining the Friday evening are the legendary Gong. Formed in Paris in 1967 by Australian musician Daevid Allen and English vocalist Gilli Smyth.”

The spokesman added: “The band has continued to change and evolve to this day, even surviving Daevid’s death in March 2015, when guitarist Kavus Torabi assumed vocal duties.”

The extremely eclectic lineup on the Saturday showcases everything from acoustic acts to full rock bands.

The spokesman added: “Another headliner is the North Sea Radio Orchestra, an ensemble of varying size, drawing on a pool of up to twenty members. It performs compositions which range from single-instrument solos and voice-and-guitar duos up to full chamber-orchestra-and-choir pieces, and all points in between.”

The festival is being held in St Margaret’s Hall, Coniston Road, Cheltenham.

The dates for the diary are July 27 and July 28.
