Thomas: Lye will not dwell on points set-back

LYE Town boss Martin Thomas says his side will not dwell on losing the West Midlands Premier League top spot due to Bartley Green resigning from the league.

Bartley Green's results this season have been removed. It means that Lye have lost six points and 18 goals compared to the six points and 10 goals taken from title rivals Shawbury United. The result is that Shawbury have moved top of the table by just one goal, and still have a game in hand.

However, Thomas insists his side have not even spoken about the matter and are more focussed on picking up as many wins as possible as the season draws to a close.

"It's just one of those things," said Thomas. "We won't dwell on it, we haven't even discussed it.

"It is disappointing that a team like Bartley Green have gone and it is something no-one wants to see. From our point of view, the whole thing is out of our control. All we can do is keep picking up wins, that is where our focus lies.

"We can see where we have stuttered this season and we know where we should have got more points. At the end of the day, if Shawbury win all their games then they will deserved to finish above us. The situation with Bartley Green won't change that.

"But there is still a long way to go and more twists and turns will happen when you least expect it. We need to make sure we do our job each week with that in mind."

He also said he hoped the club and it's fans would get the promotion they deserve.

He added. "If we go up or not, the one thing that this season has shown is that this club deserves to be playing in the league above. Lye is a grand old club that a lot of people have a lot of affection for. The fans have been great and followed us really well this season.

"It's not about personal glory, it's about getting the club to where it deserves to be. We will be trying our best to make that happen."
