ARGOS in Dudley town centre is set to close.

The retail giant confirmed that the Argos store on High Street, Dudley, will close on Saturday May 8.

The news is a blow for the town.

An Argos spokesperson said: "We understand this will be an unsettling time for those affected and colleagues will be offered opportunities to redeploy to alternative roles within Sainsbury’s.

"Customers can continue to shop with us at our nearby stores, including our Brierley Hill Merry Hill store and Gornal Wood Loc Sainsbury’s Collection Point.”

Last year the company announced plans to open 350 more Argos stores in Sainsbury’s and Argos collection points in supermarkets and convenience stores by March 2024.

As a result of this it is phasing out standalone Argos stores and plans to close around 420 branches by March 2024.

Argos was bought by supermarket Sainsbury's in 2016.
