TWO patients have been left horrified after seeing mice darting around their hospital wards.

Daniel Hendron is being treated at Walsall Manor Hospital for a leg infection and shared a series of videos on social media showing a mouse scurrying under his bed.

After sharing the footage on Monday (January 20), the 32-year-old claimed that when he complained to hospital staff, they told him they had reported a mice infestation as far back as November last year.

The dad of three from Walsall said: “The mice are everywhere. I’ve got an open wound how can this be a safe or hygienic place for me?”

He added: “At night the mice come out to play. We’re not talking one, two or three mice, they are running around everywhere.

“Staff are that scared they don’t come to you to bring you medication.”

On January 7, the day of her operation, Miss White, from Wednesbury, said she and her son spotted a mouse running around the ward she was on, squeezing between the beds.

Her 20-year-old son videoed a mouse as it ran down a hallway and underneath a bed.

The 45-year-old said: “I think I slept for 40 minutes. I was so paranoid one was going to crawl into my bed.

“Hospitals are meant to be clean. It’s absolutely disgusting and actually quite traumatising to have experienced.”

Miss White claims a nurse on the ward attempted to catch a mouse with an empty sharps box.

She added: “We pay National Insurance to stay in clean hospitals – not have mice running around.

“They could have got into anywhere in the hospital.”

A spokesperson for Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust, which operates Walsall Manor Hospital, apologised for having caused patients any distress.

They said: “We apologise for any distress caused and want to reassure patients, visitors and staff that we have pest control measures in place alongside rigorous infection prevention and control processes.

“Our teams are dealing with this issue and, in addition, we have increased cleaning in the affected areas as well as checked for any potential access holes.

“We are doing all we can to prevent any further incidents.”
