THREE restaurants in the West Midlands have been recognised as being among the best in the country at this year’s prestigious Michelin Guide Awards.
The coveted Michelin Guide held its annual ceremony last night (February 10), announcing new additions to the Michelin Guide for 2025, as well as the winners of several special awards.
Three restaurants in the region won either coveted Green Star awards or Bib Gourmand awards.
Native in Tenbury Wells, a seasonal and sustainable “farm-to-table restaurant” has been handed a Green Star – an award that highlights the restaurants at “the forefront of the industry when it comes to rethinking the impact of their activities and the future of gastronomy”.
In its description of Native, the Michelin Guide said: “It offers everything you need in one place, with a restaurant to dine in, delightful kitchen gardens to wander around and bedrooms for those wishing to sample the wines and stay the night.
“The restaurant itself is found in a charming 16th-century barn, where diners can enjoy a hyper-seasonal menu of Estate-led produce which reflects what is flourishing in the surrounding gardens, fields and forests.”
As well as Native’s success, two restaurants in the region were also recipients of the Bib Gourmand distinction, which is The Michelin Guide’s way of recognising restaurants that offer good food at a great price.
Riverine Rabbit, a restaurant born out of South Africa that has found itself a permanent home in Stirchley, Birmingham, received the recognition alongside Italian haunt, Tropea in Harborne, Birmingham.
The Michelin Guide praised Riverine Rabbit as a “terrific counter restaurant” saying “each plate is a vibrant joy to eat, while the whole experience guarantees a fun night out.”
As well as receiving a Bib Gourmand, chef co-owner, Ash Valenzuela-Heeger is also the recipient of this year’s Michelin Young Chef award.
Tropea was celebrated for its “classical Italian cooking” which the guide described as “simple, ingredient-led dishes and high-quality homemade pastas – which can all be enjoyed in a buzzing environment with relaxed, welcoming service”.
On top of the specialist awards, the region saw several of its popular foodie spots added to the Michelin Guide.
