A MAN has died following a car crash in Birmingham last night.

A man who West Midlands Police said was in his 50s was found “seriously injured” after a BMW and a Honda collided on Stratford Road in the Hall Green area of the city.

West Midlands Ambulance Service said one car had also collided with a tree.

The drivers of the BMW fled the scene of the crash, which happened around 7.15pm last night (February 11), but later presented themselves at a police station, West Midlands Police said.

The man, who was driving the Honda, was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital but later died as a result of his injuries, the police confirmed.

In an earlier statement, West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “Upon arrival, ambulance staff found the driver of the first car in a critical condition.

“They quickly began administering advanced trauma care to him at the scene.

“He was conveyed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital with a MERIT trauma doctor and critical care paramedic travelling on board for continued treatment en route.”

West Midlands Police have now arrested two men aged 18 and 19 on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

In a statement, the force said: “One of the men, a 19-year-old has been taken to hospital for health checks and the second man, an 18-year-old, has been taken into custody while our enquiries continue.
