THE FAMILY of a man who died in a hit-and-run collision in Birmingham have paid tribute to him and urged the driver to “do the decent thing”.
Wynford "Willie" Griffiths died when he was hit by a car in Audley Road, Stechford on February 9.
In a statement released by West Midlands Police yesterday (February 17), Mr Griffiths' family said the driver had turned their world upside down and pleased with them to hand themselves in.
They said: “Our beautiful brother, uncle and great uncle has been taken away from us in such an awful way.
"We are appealing to anyone who was in the area and might have camera footage to please contact the police.
"If you are the person who did this, please do the decent thing and hand yourself in to the police.
"Our world has been turned upside down with what you have done to our family."
Officers from West Midlands Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) are continuing to investigate the crash, which happened shortly after 9pm near the junction of Audley Road and Flaxley Road.
Detective Sergeant Paul Hughes said: "We want anyone who was in the area at the time of the collision to come forward and give us any footage or images you might have.
"We are also directly appealing to the driver of the car to do the right thing and take responsibility for your actions.
"If you think you know who was responsible, get in touch with us and share whatever information you have."
Anyone with dashcam footage of the collision, or of the surrounding area immediately before it, can contact the force via 101 or the Live Chat on their website, quoting log number 3687 of 9 February.
Alternatively, people with information can contact the SCIU directly at SCIU@westmidlands.police.uk.
