DRIVERS have been warned of disruption after emergency repair works have commenced on a busy main road in Dudley.
One lane of Birmingham New Road is closed in order to facilitate a gas leakage repair.
Works by Cadent Gas started yesterday (June 10) and are estimated to be completed on June 16.
The lane closure is located on the northbound section of the carriageway and commences between Priory Road and Sedgely Road, continuing to the other side of this junction.
Dudley Council urged drivers to consider alternative routes as it anticipated that there would be “significant disruption”, especially at peak travel times.
However, Cadent have agreed to install a temporary suspension of the right turn from Birmingham New Road (A4123) into Sedgley Road (A457).
Dudley Council said: “This will significantly ease congestion in the area, as any car turning tight would prevent the passage of all other vehicles travelling straight ahead or left.
“A signed diversion will be installed in relation to an alternative route to access this section of Sedgley Road.”
