A NEW murder mystery show based on the best-selling book of a celebrity reverend that was shot in Dudley is set to air tonight.

Crews were spotted filming for ‘Murder Before Evensong’ in several locations in the area, including on Vale Street in Gornal, earlier this year.

Now, after months of waiting in anticipation, residents will get the chance to see their hometown at the centre of the action as the first episode of the six-part series will air tonight (October 7) at 9pm on Channel 5.

The show is based on the novel by Reverend Richard Coles(Image: Newsquest)

Based on the novel by Reverend Richard Coles, ‘Murder Before Evensong’ follows the story of a community in a sleepy English village that becomes entwined in a murder spree after controversial plans are revealed to install a toilet in the church in the heart of the village.

Actor Matthew Lewis, best known for portraying Neville Longbottom in the Harry Potter franchise, has been cast in the lead role of Canon Daniel Clement, a member of the clergy on a mission to keep the community together and find out who is responsible.

The cast also consists of Amit Shah (Happy Valley) as DS Neil Vanloo, Adam James (The Day of the Jackal) as Bernard De Floures Meghan Treadway (One Day) as Honor De Floures, Alexander Delamain as Alex De Floures, Marion Bailey (The Crown) as Kath, Amanda Hadingue (Kaos) as Dora, Tamzin Outhwaite (The Wives) as Stella Harper, Francis Magee (Kin) as Edgy, and Nina Toussaint-White (Showtrial) as Jane Thwaite.

As well as in Gornal, film crews were also spotted in Stourbridge’s Mary Stevens Park, as well as in the nearby town of Bridgnorth.

Both sets were kept tightly under wraps throughout filming, so there’s no telling when Dudley will make its appearance in the show.
