A new Christmas song is capturing hearts and raising funds for a good cause.
One Day in December was written by local singer-songwriter Susy Wall and released on December 1 in support of Mary Stevens Hospice.
The song reflects on the challenges of facing Christmas after a bereavement and offers hope for brighter holidays in the future.
Ms Wall said: "I was inspired to write the song after chatting with Ruth about how Christmas can be a really tough time for folks.
"I’m hoping to song offers some support to people who find this time of year difficult and I’m really hopeful that lots of people will like the track and buy it on Bandcamp so that we can raise funds for the Hospice.
"It’s been such an amazing experience to work with Ruth and the team on the song and I’m so pleased that the song resonates with them and aligns with the values of the hospice too."
The idea of commissioning the song was born while Ruth Radley, spiritual care lead at the hospice, had been searching for music to accompany a 'Blue Christmas' video.
Struggling to find a track that captured the right tone, the idea of commissioning a song was born.
Ms Radley said: "The song One Day in December was written to reflect these feelings honestly while gently offering hope that future Christmases can feel lighter.
"By downloading and sharing the song, listeners will be directly supporting the hospice’s essential end-of-life and palliative care for patients and families at a time when care is needed most."
One Day in December is available on Bandcamp, with all proceeds directly funding specialist palliative and end-of-life care for local people across the Dudley borough and surrounding areas.
