A COMMUNITY fund is back for another year to support grassroots projects near a new energy facility.

Enfinium has launched its 2026 Kelvin Community Benefit Fund, offering £11,211 in funding to organisations within a 10-mile radius of its under-construction Kelvin energy-from-waste site in Sandwell.

The fund supports projects that deliver environmental benefits, promote health and wellbeing, or strengthen local communities.

Philip Curds, head of ESG and sustainability at enfinium, said: "We are immensely proud of the positive change delivered through enfinium’s Kelvin Community Benefit Fund.

"In 2025, more than £15,000 was invested in West Midlands communities, supporting grassroots projects that improved environmental outcomes and enhanced health, safety and wellbeing.

"We look forward to continuing this support in 2026, working alongside organisations in the communities closest to our Kelvin facility to help them thrive."

Last year’s fund supported a range of projects, including £5,000 for Lyng Primary School in West Bromwich.

The funding helped support its redevelopment of an immersive timber trail playground, providing a long-lasting outdoor learning and play space for pupils.

Elsewhere, more than £1,800 was awarded to the Tees Titans project, enabling North Smethwick Development Trust to deliver 46 after-school multi-sport sessions for children aged five to 12 at the Brasshouse Community Centre.

Jennifer Harrison, chief executive officer at North Smethwick Development Trust, said: "Our goal is to offer an engaging programme of activity that can make a meaningful difference to the lives of young people.

"We’re really grateful to enfinium for their support, it means we can create a lasting impact that extends the benefits of sports and character development to children who need it most."

Applications are open to registered charities, schools, not-for-profit organisations and community groups, including those outside the immediate catchment area.
