A DEDICATED cat rescuer from Kingswinford has been recognised for her work saving injured and abandoned animals across the area.

Susie Gibson from One Cat at a Time is the latest recipient of the Saleem Foundation Award for Heroes.

The award was founded by community champion Shaz Saleem and is sponsored by Lydia Longville of the Bonsai Black Belt Academy.

Mr Saleem said: "I personally believe it's important to recognise community ambassadors who make our area better for all.

"Many congratulations to Susie and thank you for everything you have done for our community."

Ms Gibson was nominated by Julie-Ann Hadley, who said: "Susie works tirelessly to help injured and abandoned cats and kittens found in the most squalid and appalling conditions.

"From factories, gardens, under fly overs and grass verges, 24/7 Susie is on call to give help, warmth, shelter and that beacon of love and hope for cats in need.

"All the vet bills, food, shelter are paid for by Susie and her fund raising campaigns.

"Susie thoroughly deserves to be recognised and acknowledged as a local community champion for all her work."

The award was presented by community champion Brian Bassingthwaighte.

Ms Longville said: "It's absolutely amazing hearing about the lovely work done by the group led by Susie.

"On behalf of Bonsai Black Belt Academy, we are proud to present this award to such a fantastic person."
