PEOPLE living and working in Dudley borough will soon be invited to help shape a new long-term planning strategy for the area.

Dudley Council is preparing to launch work on the Dudley Borough Local Plan, which will guide development in the borough up to 2045.

The plan aims to ensure enough homes are built while supporting economic growth and regeneration.

Councillors are expected to approve the development of the new plan, with the first public consultation due to take place this summer.

Residents, businesses and community groups will be able to share their views as part of a series of three consultations planned during the process.

At the same time, the council is set to formally adopt the existing Dudley Local Plan, which has already been examined by the Planning Inspectorate and found to be sound.

That plan focuses on redevelopment of brownfield land and does not include the release of green belt sites for housing.

The current plan is expected to remain in place until 2029, when it will be replaced by the new borough-wide strategy.

The council says the updated plan is needed following changes to national planning rules, including updates to the National Planning Policy Framework.

Once complete, the Dudley Borough Local Plan will set out where new housing, employment and infrastructure should be located, as well as identifying priorities for regeneration across the borough.

Further details on how to take part in the consultation are expected to be published on the council’s website in the coming months.
