A Dudley-based manufacturer is facing potential closure after a strategic review identified financial challenges and ongoing trading difficulties.
Nuttall, a long-established shopfitting business, is now in consultation with employees about the proposed wind-down of its operations, with the potential for redundancies if closure goes ahead.
Richard Hall, CEO of The Alan Nuttall Partnership, said: "While no final decision has been made at this stage, we recognise the deep concern that this announcement will cause our valued partners and their families.
"Our immediate priority is for a meaningful consultation as to how we might avoid or reduce redundancies and mitigate the impact for partners.
"We are committed to supporting our partners, clients and suppliers through this period and we thank them for their commitment over the years."
The company will continue operating throughout the consultation process to support customers, fulfil commitments where possible and if necessary, manage the closure process.
In 2018, the business underwent a change in leadership and a revised strategy that helped it survive the pandemic and continue trading until now.
Despite ongoing efforts to identify cost-saving opportunities, the board concluded that rising costs and long-term market decline had made continued trading unsustainable.
The company cited escalating energy and employment costs, along with tough competition in the retail fit-out sector, as key factors in the decision.
If the proposal is confirmed following consultation, the business will cease trading around October 2026.
A final decision will be made after the conclusion of the consultation process.
