A CHILDREN'S author from the Black Country is helping young readers learn how to stay safe around dogs through a new rhyming book and community events.
Emma Rose, from Brierley Hill, has created Wag & Brag, an educational book for children aged three to seven, illustrated by Meg Hayes.
The story follows Wag, a curious beagle puppy, and Brag, a wise British Shorthair cat, as they teach which everyday human foods can be harmful to dogs.
Alongside the book, Ms Rose has produced free learning resources for families, schools and teachers via her website, aimed at reinforcing dog safety in a simple and engaging way.
Since its release, she has been visiting schools and community events across the region, delivering interactive sessions using storytelling, rhyme and activities.
A new initiative, the Travelling Wag & Brag Book, is also encouraging families to pass copies on after reading them.
Books are being left in public places for others to discover, with readers asked to donate them to charity shops or share them with another family, helping the message spread across the West Midlands.
Ms Rose will be appearing at Party in the Park on August 8 and 9, where families can meet the characters, take part in free activities and learn more about staying safe around dogs.
She said her long-term aim is to grow Wag & Brag into a nationally recognised educational brand.
