A FATHER and son are preparing to take on a 104ft abseil for charity.
Community champion Shaz Saleem, aged 40, and his 11-year-old son Shazad Haidar-Ali will take on the challenge on October 17, in support of Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity.
The abseil will be Haidar’s first charity challenge and first-ever abseil.
Mr Saleem said: "This is a very special challenge for me because I get to do it alongside my son.
"Haidar has never done anything like this before.
"It’s his first charity challenge and his first abseil, so I’m incredibly proud of him for stepping up and wanting to help raise money for Birmingham Children’s Hospital."
Haidar, a black belt kickboxer and Kingswinford Academy pupil, said: "I’m excited but also a little nervous because I’ve never done an abseil before.
"I’m proud that my first charity challenge is something I can do with my dad, and I hope people will support us and help us raise as much money as possible for Birmingham Children’s Hospital."
Mr Saleem is well known for his fundraising efforts and community work.
Most recently, he helped raise £28,000 for the Mayor of Dudley’s chosen charities through a boxing match against Councillor Patrick Harley.
He said he hopes the abseil will not only raise vital funds but also inspire his son and others to give back.
He said: "I’ve always believed that if you have the opportunity to give something back to your community, you should.
"Hopefully this challenge will not only raise much-needed funds, but also inspire Haidar and other young people to understand the importance of helping others."
