Prime Minister Andy Burnham announced he is to put a further £432 million towards his plan to get every rough sleeper off the streets by Christmas.
Mr Parker said “outstanding work” was already being done locally to help people off the streets and into long-term settled accommodation.
In June, the West Midlands Combined Authority Investment Board gave the green light for more the £18 million to be deployed for the Supported Housing Funding Programme to tackle homelessness in Birmingham and Coventry.
The funding is being used for supporting housing, which provides accommodation alongside support for people who need help to live independently, including those experiencing or at risk of homelessness and rough sleeping.
The £18,266,172 will see just over £13.4 million handed to Birmingham and more than £4.4 million for Coventry.
Mr Parker said: “Today’s funding announcement will build on the Prime Minister’s commitment to offer everyone a safe route off the streets this winter and supports the outstanding work already being done by our local councils, charities and frontline organisations.
“It will mean we can continue to give people the specialist help they need to permanently move away from rough sleeping and into long-term, settled accommodation.
“Prevention is always better than crisis. A safe, secure and affordable home gives people the stability they need to thrive and avoid homelessness.
“We can’t truly tackle homelessness without addressing the shortage of genuinely affordable homes, which is why I’m investing in more social housing.
“Last year we unlocked a record 1,086 social rent homes, helping more families out of temporary accommodation and taking an important step towards tackling the region’s housing crisis.”
The latest government funding will be confirmed at the Budget on Wednesday (October 28) and takes the Prime Minister’s commitment to £874 million.
Mr Burnham said: “Rough sleeping isn’t a fact of life. It’s a thing governments either choose to accept or don’t.
“Well I don’t accept it. That’s why we’re doubling funding so that people aren’t just offered a safe route off the streets this winter but have that same support right through the rest of this Parliament too.”
