A Black Country manufacturer has secured its 150,000th order as it marks 80 years in business.

Alloy Wire International (AWI), based in Brierley Hill, reached the milestone with an order from a nuclear sector customer.

The company will celebrate its anniversary and achievement with a special dinner at Hogarths Stone Manor Hotel in Kidderminster on November 7, bringing together colleagues, international agents, and business partners.

Tom Mander, managing director of AWI, said: "It doesn’t seem five minutes since we were celebrating our 75th — time really does fly when you’re having fun.

"To reach this major milestone in our anniversary year is fantastic and testament to the outstanding team we have in the Black Country and across our 35 international agents, who help us generate more than £8m of export sales every year."

Founded in 1946 by John Stockdale in an old ambulance station in Old Hill, AWI now operates from over 28,000 sq ft of facility in Brierley Hill.

The company manufactures 60 exotic alloys for customers in 12 sectors across 55 countries.

Recent investment of more than £1.3 million has expanded production capacity and upgraded equipment, supporting the firm’s promise of three-week delivery.

Mark Venables, chairman of AWI, said: "I am genuinely proud and honoured to be part of the Alloy Wire International story.

"Personally, I have been in the manufacturing business 46 years, 16 of which have been spent as MD and now Chairman of AWI."

He paid tribute to former leaders Bill Graham, Paul Wiltshire, and Martin Cobb for shaping the company’s culture and success.

Mr Graham, who joined AWI in 1972 and took full control in 1991, said: "When I engineered the original MBO from the listed parent company, I wanted to create a unique working environment where every member of staff owned a part of the business."

AWI also supports communities and charities through its Wired for Good campaign, launched in 2021.

Over the past five years, the company has donated more than £75,000 to organisations including Acorn’s Children’s Hospice, Make-A-Wish Foundation, Guide Dogs for the Blind, and Tough Enough to Care.
